2010 Chasing the Sun Trip

Day 2 – Welcome to Colorado Springs

Atop Capulin Volcano

Well it is the end of day two.  I am here in Colorado Springs at the Garden of the Gods Campground just outside the Garden of the Gods.  I wasn’t sure I would like being in a campground inside the city but it is pretty nice.  The facilities are clean, they have two pools, one for just adults, and a nice cantina that serves up a single dish on selected nights.  Tonights meal was BBQ Chicken with Beans and Slaw and a roll.  It was pretty good and only $6 bucks so the price was right and I didn’t have to leave the grounds.  Now the “downside” of this is that I have yet to eat what I figured would be a plethora of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  P&Js this trip  so far = 0. I am sure once I get along a little further that count will go up.  They also have a couple playing music that were really good.  They played Clapton, and Bonnie Raitt, and So other great music.  It was really enjoyable.  Anyway more about the day itself.

I didn’t really get to take photos or video today.  I still had a lot of traveling to do.  I did make one unexpected detour while in New Mexico.  There is a inactive/dormant volcano called the Capulin Volcano it rises up out of the planes with its conical shape and can be seen from far away.  There are a few “buttes” around the area too but this was the largest thing you really see till you are almost into colorado.  They were closing early when I got there and so I had about 30 minutes to get to the top and back down again.  I didn’t make the best photos I could as it was just something that I saw on the way (3 miles of my route).

Tomorrow I hope to be in the car a lot less.  The Colorado Balloon Classic starts off at 6 a.m. and goes all day, I will probably use a portion of the midday to see the Garden of the Gods.  Well I need to go to bed I have and early morning.  Later Everyone.
