Wouldn’t you know it? I ended up getting up and getting to Zion National Park at sunrise to find the major shot I wanted to take is a sunset shot. That is lack of research and planning on my part. It doesn’t really matter though because its not just about the destination or getting the perfect shot. As much as I would always love to capture some iconic shots sometimes you just not their at the right time. In those cases you just have to be happy with what you can get and enjoy the scenery.
Another thing I wanted to do while I was at Zion was to hike the narrows. About 70% of the hike is through water with canyon walls climbing several hundred feet above you on either side. The views are magnificent. I opted to go on the hike and rented special shoes and socks as well as a walking stick and camera dry bag to take on the hike. Gear rental for the afternoon runs about $27 or $20 if you don’t need the drybag which I recommend if your taking a camera. The hike although classified as strenuous is not too bad, the air is cool even if it’s hot outside the canyon their is plenty of shade and the water is cold. At one point the water was up to my chest but that was only 1 time (2 times round trip). Most times the water is about knee deep if your crossing from one sand bar or rocky spot to another. It is definitely not a thing to be missed if your at Zion.
Well I am almost out of time at this Motel called the Bob and Bon Inn in Kanab where I spent the night. So I will need to cut this entry a bit short. Till the next entry.
